A Rockland County special education teacher was under the influence of heroin when she crashed her station wagon into a utility pole in Mahwah, took off and then drove past the investigating officers in the severely damaged vehicle, Police Chief James Batelli said this afternoon.
Jill Blau, 42, of Mahwah was released pending a court hearing after the July 4th weekend incident on Kingsbridge Way, the chief said.
Officer Thomas Mitchell was taking statements from witnesses when he saw Blau drive by in the blue 2015 Lexus wagon โwith parts missing and damage consistent to what was reported,โ as well as two flat tires, Batelli said.
Blau, who teaches in the Clarkstown School District โ and had a previous DUI arrest two years ago โ was taken into custody after failing a field sobriety test, the chief said. Her vehicle was impounded, he said.
