A Spring Valley police officer is being credited with saving a life this week.
On Sunday morning, July 12, 2015 at 4:35 a.m., the Spring Valley Police Department received a call reporting a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of 50 Commerce Street in the village. The caller reported that the car was parked, on fire, and the engine was accelerating at a very high speed.
Spring Valley Police Officer Khalid Parwanta responded to the scene and found the vehicle’s interior and engine compartment engulfed in flames and a disorientated male inside overcome with smoke, unable to get out. Police report that Parwanta entered the flaming vehicle and pulled the male out by his feet. A second officer, PO Steven Olivier, arrived on scene, and the two officers carried the male away from the flaming vehicle just moments before it exploded into flames.
Spring Valley Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. Spring Hill Ambulance took the male to Good Samaritan hospital where he was treated for burns and later transferred to Westchester Medical Center.
