Nyack promotes solar

Nyack will take part in a non-profit program that will make investing in solar power easier and more affordable for local residents and businesses across Rockland County.

Solarize Nyack Plus is partnering with Solarize Hudson Valley, a state-supported not-for-profit program, to make going solar easier and more affordable for local residents by educating consumers about state and federal incentives and selecting highly qualified installers who offer a discount on contracts signed by the end of the campaign.

Solarize Nyack Plus will kick off with a workshop on Tuesday, March 8 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at the Nyack Center, 58 Depew Avenue, Nyack. Area residents and small business owners can learn about the program’s advantages at the workshop.

After a thorough qualification process, the Solarize Nyack Plus team selected Sunrise Solar Solutions and Apex Solar Power as its designated solar installers. Residents and business owners who sign up for a free solar assessment by June 30 will be able to take advantage of group rates below market prices. When added to state and federal incentives and tax credits, the group purchase discount can cut the cost of going solar by more than half.

The program also provides the benefits of New York State’s “Affordable Solar” plan, which expands access to solar energy to households most in need of electricity cost reductions. It doubles the incentives provided by the NY-Sun program for households earning less than 80 percent of the median income in Rockland County. This incentive lowers the total upfront cost of the solar installation for the homeowner.

Mayor Jen White says, “I’m excited that a team of local citizens is bringing this important community-based effort to Nyack and Rockland. It fits perfectly with our current efforts to help our residents and businesses use alternative energy and save money. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to learn about everything the program offers to homeowners and businesses here in Nyack and all of Rockland County.”

Solarize Nyack Plus is supported by NYSERDA under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s NY-Sun initiative. NY-Sun will invest up to $1 billion in solar power through 2023 to significantly expand solar installations across the state, ultimately transforming New York’s solar industry to become self-sustaining.
