Brabenec Calls House Dems Cowards on Transparency

Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark) comments on the alleged attempt by Assembly Democrats to increase transparency, accountability

“It’s shameful that it took a closed door work group of Assembly Democrats 11 months to propose reforms that lacked substance and any will to restore trust in the legislature. Assembly Democrats will try to claim credit for ‘ethics reform’ when they voted against some of the exact same proposals Assembly Republicans presented months ago. The Assembly Democrats’ weak reform proposals are like putting a fresh coat of paint on a crumbling building when compared to the widespread corruption problem we have in Albany.

“Assembly Democrats are apparently content with letting corrupt lawmakers keep their pensions and career politicians follow in the footsteps of Sheldon Silver by amassing wealth and influence over limitless careers. But I’m sadly not surprised, since this ‘reform’ package is coming from the same group that voted for increasing welfare abuse, $5.6 billion in tax increases and a 50 percent cut to local farms last week.”
