Hunter was sworn into office on Jan. 1, 1988. She won reelection several times and retired in December 2011, after 24 years as a councilwoman. She continued to serve the community as a member of the town police commission. Hunter also enjoyed a long career as a teacher, retiring as principal of Eldorado in the East Ramapo School District.
