Statement from Town Officials to Public

The Town of Haverstraw has aggressively pursued marketing of our Letchworth property. We have hired Cushman & Wakefield to market the property and Requests For Proposals have gone out to all the major developers around the country. We are looking for the right fit for the property. Until we find that, we are going to hold on to the property. The town has continued to make upgrades at our parks, both at Bowline Point Park and Cheesecote Mountain. We have aggressively gone after grants and will continue to do so. The town continues to provide numerous recreation activities for its residents such as: Summer Thursday Night Concert Series, Independence Day Celebration, and Halloween Festival to name a few.

The Town of Haverstraw has achieved one of the most outstanding grades from the New York State Comptroller’s Stress Test and will continue to maintain our strong fiscal reputation. Once again, our 2016 annual independent audit report represented a clean audit opinion with strong financial positions. Our bond rating continues to be very positive, allowing the town to receive better interest rates. We continually look for new rateables to keep the town tax low. The Haverstraw Water Recovery Facility is one of the top facilities in New York State and operates with the lowest Sewer Tax in Rockland County.

The Haverstraw Police Department will continue to focus on community policing with outstanding programs such as the North Rockland Youth Police Academy, Youth Court, Badges for Baseball and involvement with the Haverstraw Police Athletic League. The Town of Haverstraw Highway Department will continue its road paving program in 2018. This will be accomplished with grants and capital project funds. The Highway Department remains committed to providing excellent snow-plowing service that our residents have come to expect. The town has completed a beautification project at the corner of Rt. 202 and Thiells Mt. Ivy Road and plans on another beautification project at the south end of Town on Rt. 9W.
