NEW YORK STATE PISTOL LICENSE HOLDERS MUST RE-CERTIFY OR FACE LICENSE REVOCATION

PRESS RELEASE FROM COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICE

In accordance with the NY SAFE Act, New York State Pistol License holders licensed prior to January 15, 2013 must re-certify their license through the NYS Police by January 31, 2018. License holders licensed after January 15, 2013 must re-certify five years from the original issue date.

License holders can recertify with the NYS Police either on line or through the mail. Required information includes; name, address, permit number, date of birth and list of registered pistols.

To re-certify online, logon to: https://www.troopers.ny.gov/firearms/pistol_revolver_license_recertification.php

This site will allow users to:

  • Access detailed instructions and FAQ’s
  • Re-certify online or download a hard copy form for mailing.
  • Receive a receipt which proves re-certification (only when completing the process online). If re-certifying by mail, certified or registered mail with a return receipt is recommended.
  • Check Re-certification Status

Failure to re-certify within the prescribed period will be reported to Licensing Officials by the New York State Police.
