As County Executive, I am thrilled to introduce our community to Juan Pablo Mobili, who has been named Rockland County’s new Poet Laureate.
This historic appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for the arts in Rockland County, one that celebrates the literary talent within our community and highlights the power of language to bring us together.
Juan’s journey to this role is a story of passion, dedication, and a lifelong love of words. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and a resident of Rockland County since 1988, he brings a unique perspective that reflects his diverse cultural heritage and profound appreciation for the written word. With parents who valued education and creativity—a mother who was a school principal and a father who was a poet and public servant—Juan Pablo grew up understanding the transformative power of language to foster self-discovery, promote compassion, and inspire action.
The Poet Laureate program, a collaboration between the County of Rockland and the Arts Council of Rockland (ACOR), aims to shine a spotlight on the literary arts and their integral role in our community’s cultural fabric. As Poet Laureate, Juan will serve as an ambassador for poetry, connecting with residents through public readings, civic events, and educational programs. His role will be to engage, inspire, and celebrate the voices that make Rockland County such a vibrant place to live.
Juan’s professional background is as impressive as his literary accomplishments. As a consultant in Organizational Leadership, he has worked with leading global organizations and institutions, helping individuals and teams discover their potential and articulate their unique identities. His work has taken him to 38 countries and allowed him to collaborate with some of the most prestigious programs at the Wharton School and Harvard Business School. This wealth of experience informs his poetry and his approach to fostering meaningful dialogue within our community.
In Juan Pablo’s words, “Language is the foundation of dialogue and understanding, a bridge that allows us to learn about each other. Poetry is one of the most profound uses of language—a way to express ourselves, connect deeply with others, and explore the beauty and complexity of life.”
As County Executive, I believe that the arts are not just an expression of creativity but a vital tool for community building.
Through Juan’s leadership, I am confident that we will see poetry flourish in new and exciting ways across Rockland County as his vision for this role aligns perfectly with our commitment to fostering a thriving cultural landscape, where every resident can find inspiration and connection through the arts.
I encourage all of our residents to take part in the events and programs Juan Pablo Mobili will lead as Poet Laureate and let us celebrate and embrace the transformative power of poetry to inspire, connect, and elevate our community.
Congratulations to Juan Pablo Mobili on this well-deserved recognition.
I look forward to seeing the impact of his work and the voices he will uplift through his tenure as Rockland County’s Poet Laureate.
