Orangetown
TAPPAN: Tappan Library, Board Game Night: Abducktion
A strategy game of duck matching, a UFO, and logic! Players are all interns on an alien UFO, working for an intergalactic corporation that has one main function: abducting ducks. (For research purposes, duh).
But, ducks need to be collected in specific formations, and you’ll have to use spatial logic and cunning to rearrange your ducks before your opponents to win!
Abduct (collect) ducks in specific formations by using action cards to move your (or your opponent’s) ducks around. Put the ducks into patterns by moving them around with action cards. When your ducks in a single color match a pattern on one of the shared formation cards, you earn the card and abduct the ducks into the UFO. Grab more ducks out of the UFO and try to make another pattern before the cards run out!

*Closing Night*
Running NOW – October 4th, 2025
During the war, Joe Keller and Steve Deever ran a machine shop which made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the firm turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of many men. Keller went free and made a lot of money. The twin shadows of this catastrophe and the fact that the young Keller son was reported missing during the war dominate the action. The love affair of Chris Keller and Ann Deever, the bitterness of George Deever returned from the war to find his father in prison and his father’s partner free, are all set in a structure of almost unbearable power. The climax showing the reaction of a son to his guilty father is fitting conclusion to a play electrifying in its intensity.

Historical House Tours

October is Rockland History Month! As part of its celebrations, the Historical Society of Rockland County (HSRC) will continue its long tradition of presenting Historical House Tours with a day in Tappan. These tours, going back over 50 years are fundraising events for the Society. At the same time, they promote awareness of local history and our beautiful built environment.
This year the tour will take place in the hamlet of Tappan, on Saturday, October 4, from 10am to 4pm and is sponsored by Beckerle Lumber and Home Centers. Orangetown Historian Mary Cardenas and members of the Tappantown Historical Society, together with a team of volunteers from the Historical Society of Rockland County, have been working together to present a tour that will showcase the hamlet’s history and charm. The tour will also serve as the kickoff for events celebrating the 250th anniversary in 2026 of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
This year’s self-guided tour offers a look at historically significant buildings in Tappan (including several on the National Register of Historic Places) together with historic, eclectic, and charming private residences.
Historic Homes and Landmarks Tour Details:
• Date: October 4, 2025
• Time: 10am – 4pm
• Fee: Advance ticket reservations: $ 40 per person. Day of event tickets: $ 45 per person at The De Wint House, 9 Livingston, Tappan, NY.

Drop the Vape
The New York State Department of Health’s Tobacco Control Program, together with the New York State Quitline, announces the offering of a texting program called DropTheVape as a confidential and free skill-building tool to overcome nicotine addiction. Program information and registration are available at www.DropTheVape.org.
ImageClinicians and researchers at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, N.Y., the NYS Quitline’s physical location, tailored the text messages in DropTheVape particularly for young people and young adults; however, the program can conveniently help people of all ages overcome a variety of tobacco products. Upon registering for texts, program participants will receive daily messages over the course of six weeks, with interactive skill-building for managing stress, handling cravings and maintaining confidence in social situations.
For more than a decade, e-cigarette use or “vaping” continues to be a popular trend in tobacco product use, especially among young people and young adults. Much like commercial combustible cigarettes, these products carry both mental and physical health risks and are difficult to quit.
“E-cigarettes often contain dangerously high levels of nicotine, fueling the next generation of people who smoke,” said New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald. “DropTheVape gives New Yorkers a free resource to overcome nicotine addiction and protect their health.”
