Italian American Scholarship Fund Supports Local Students

On Tuesday, May 29, The Italian American Scholarship Association celebrated their 34th Anniversary by awarding nine local high school students scholarships. This year, Committee Chairman John V. Parrella and Co-Chair John R. Lagana announced that the Association will also contribute $1,000 to the Children of Fallen Patriots, which will finance two students to achieve a better education.

This year, the Association presented $13,000 collectively, announcing that over their 34 years they have awarded over $450,000 in scholarships. The Association awarded one $4,000 scholarship and eight $1,000 scholarships. As well as the $1,000 awarded to the Children of Fallen Patriots Scholarship Fund.

Students from various High Schools in Rockland attended, and accepted $1,000 scholarships. From North Rockland High School, Tyler Sadutto will be attending Franklin College and Jaclyn Marie O’ Shea will attend Quinnipiac University; from Pearl River High School, Amelia Marino will be attending Ithica College, and Nicole Fornabiao will attend Loyola University. Kelly Voglio, from Clarkstown South High School, will be attending Marist College, while her classmate, Kristen Pinto, will attend George Washington University. Deanna Felicissimo will graduate from Nanuet High School this year, and make her way to the University of Pittsburgh.

The $4,000 scholarship was awarded to Emily Dries from Tappan High School who will be attending Cornell University this fall.

The $1,000 will go towards the education of Michael McMahon Jr., who is attending Lincoln Tech Institute and will graduate in 2013, and also to Jena Greene, who will graduate High School in Connecticut this year and plans to attend Trinity College.
