Press Release
Saint Augustine School (SAS) in New City, New York is hosting a Step Up For SAS Pep Rally on Thursday, January 3, 2013.
The Step Up For SAS celebration will take place in the school gymnasium located at 114 South Main Street, New City beginning at 7 p.m. and will include an opening ceremony and performance by the students, remarks by school and local leaders, a video presentation and dance party. The event is open to the public.
“We are proud to host the Pep Rally” Principal Katharine Murphy said. “The Thursday night Pep Rally will be a great way for our school community to conclude the arduous five week process of developing our proposal and appeal to the Archdiocese of New York to prevent our great school from being closed at the end of the school year.”
January 3, 2013 marks the day that schools which were placed on a preliminary list of “at risk” schools by the Archdiocese of New York on November 26, 2012 can submit an alternative proposal to remain open and viable without financial support.
Saint Augustine School’s proposal demonstrates how the school already meets or exceeds all of the objectives identified by the Archdiocese in their multi-year strategic plan; Pathways to Excellence for schools that are “academically excellent” and “poised for growth and longevity” and how it will do so with a balanced budget. Step Up For SAS Chairperson Bethann Rooney said that Saint Augustine School exemplifies Pathways to Excellence and is a strong educational beacon that the Archdiocese should be navigating toward not away from.
