At the 10th annual North Rockland 3-Mile Run/Walk this past weekend, the towns of Haverstraw and Stony Point joined together to recognize the numerous contributions of Jeannie Nicolakis, executive manager and owner of Sparky’s Diner in Garnerville, to the North Rockland community. The towns presented Nicolakis with a plaque commemorating her “unparalleled dedication and devoted contributions to the North Rockland community and for her humanitarian efforts.”
Sparky’s is well known as a key social hub in the Town of Haverstraw, often times acting as a networking location for local politicos and other movers and shakers. In 2013, Hollywood noticed Sparky’s for the first time, as a Brad Pitt-produced film chose the cozy environs as the setting of a scene in the upcoming film “True Story” starring Jonah Hill and James Franco.
And, oh yeah, the food is good too, featuring regular specials each day of the week.
Nicolakis is active in supporting local charities, youth groups, veterans and church programs, and is considered by patrons of her restaurant to be an always friendly and reassuring presence.
