Bramson Should Resign from Fringe Anti-Second Amendment Group

From Assemblyman Kieran Lalor (R,CI – Fishkill)

Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R,C,I – Fishkill) released a statement this week criticizing New Rochelle mayor and Democratic candidate for Westchester County Executive Noah Bramson for his membership in Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Lalor is calling on Bramson to resign from the organization after it included Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Los Angeles cop killer Christopher Dorner, along with other criminals, on a list of gun violence victims.

“Mayors Against Illegal Guns thought that it was appropriate to mourn Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Christopher Dorner as victims,” said Lalor. “Don’t be fooled by the name, Mayors Against Illegal Guns represents the radical fringe of the anti-gun movement. Instead of trying to make America safer, they’re working on dismantling the Second Amendment. Tsarnaev and Dorner weren’t murdered. They were shot by police after bloody killing sprees. They were not victims. It’s hard to believe that Mayors Against Illegal Guns doesn’t care about the distinction between a dangerous terrorist and the tragic loss of life due to gun crime. Mayor Bramson should resign his membership. His campaign has boasted about his membership, but Mayors Against Illegal Guns has been exposed as a shameless fringe group.”

Mayors Against Illegal Guns has sponsored the “No More Names” bus tour. The New Hampshire Union Leader reported that at the Concord, New Hampshire stop organizers read the names of Americans “murdered with guns” since the Newtown tragedy. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Christopher Dorner, and a number of criminals were among the names read off as victims of gun violence.

Lalor continued, “Bramson is touting his membership in an organization that has been misleading the American people to score political points. A quick look at the list would have revealed there were many criminals on it. It includes a man shot by police while threatening to kill a two-year-old girl he had snatched from her mother in a parking lot. This is a group that doesn’t distinguish between a gun being used to save a kidnapped child and the victim of a crime. They’re just concerned about making a political statement.”

“As a mayor, Bramson should recognize that a cop killer like Christopher Dorner doesn’t deserve to be mourned. Bramson and other New York mayors who are members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns should resign from the group. Mayors Against Illegal Guns is part of the fringe, anti-Second Amendment movement. Bramson’s memberships lends Mayors Against Illegal Guns credibility it doesn’t deserve. A responsible leader would resign immediately,” Lalor concluded.
