After half a decade of sitting more than half empty, the shopping center owned by Gator Corporation on 9W in southern-most Stony Point is finally about to welcome a major tenant.
Aldi Supermarket will fill the space, with a grand opening celebration scheduled for August 22. The stores hours will be Monday – Saturday 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
According to the companyโs website, Aldi differs from other chains by carrying mostly Aldi brand name products, a strategy to keep prices low by negotiating better deals with suppliers. In what Aldi states is an effort to lower costs further and stay green, they also charge for bags, though customers will be allowed to bring ones they had previously purchased.
Aldi is also distinguished in that the chainโs stores does not currently take credit cards and sells alcohol on a store-by-store basis. According to officials, the Stony Point Aldi is not likely to sell alcohol. The store does take debit cards.
If you shop at Aldi, bring your own shopping bags. The company explains, “When itโs your turn at the register, push your cart around to the end of the lane, to easily load your groceries right back into your cart. As an ALDI shopper, you bag your own purchases, eliminating the expense of baggers. With no baggers to pay, we can run each checkout with one employee instead of two. You not only saveโyou control the weight and content of each bag.”
