Jojo John, 35, the allegedly intoxicated driver in last week’s Piermont boating tragedy that claimed two lives, was released from prison this week on his own recognizance.
The decision to ‘ROR’ him, District Attorney Zugibe explained, was based upon a number of factors: severity of injuries necessitating a long hospital stay, the fact that it was not an intentional crime, the determination the defendant was not a flight risk and to mitigate the daily cost of $3,400 per day for the county to guard him at the hospital.
Zugibe said John is still facing felony charges in the case.
