Stony Point Seals Gearing Up for 15th Polar Plunge

olivia3-224x300It was started by a group of friends from Hoover Place, Stony Point a decade and a half ago and has budded into a full blown community tradition. We’re talking about the Stony Point Seals annual Polar Plunge, of course, where hundreds of brave souls gather at the Stony Point seawall on the morning of Super Bowl Sunday to jump into the icy waters of the Hudson River, all in the name of a good cause.

The Seals, led by Stony Pointers John Fox and John Corcoran, have raised over $30,000 a year for selected kids suffering from severe medical challenges. This year’s recipient is Olivia Barron who was born and diagnosed with CHARGE Syndrome, a genetic condition that causes children to have several medical and physical difficulties.

Last year’s event was done to assist in Sandy relief. Dozens of businesses from across North Rockland get involved in the event, donating food, fun and entertainment.
