Award recipient one day, busted the next

The Town of Haverstraw was caught in an awkward spot last week as a woman who received an award for excellence in achievement was arrested less than 24 hours later for allegedly faking a robbery complaint.

McDonald’s manager Dulce Santos was among two dozen or so notable persons honored in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month on Monday, October 27, but police had already been suspicious of her for several days prior.

Santos had reported being mugged while making a deposit from McDonald’s at the next door Chase Bank. In reality, police believe she faked the mugging to make off with the cash for herself.
