A seemingly normal village reorganization meeting degenerated into a partisan showdown in Suffern this week. Two new Republican trustees were sworn in giving the GOP a 4 – 1 edge on the board, but nobody could seem to get their way at the reorg meeting. A failed effort to appoint former mayor James Giannettino to the Planning Board turned into the refusal of the board to reappoint Stephanie Adwar interim justice and then concluded with Mayor Abato illegally refusing to appoint a deputy mayor.
Then the crowd got involved, dressing down various members of the board. Stay tuned to see how the drama unfolds!
