9W detour in Stony Point until Thursday morning

The Stony Point Police are investigating a commercial motor vehicle accident on Rte 9W in the vicinity of Higgins Funeral Home that occurred around 1:14 p.m. on Wednesday.

Said vehicle collided with a utility pole and overturned spilling its load (logs) across the roadway, and puncturing its fuel tanks. The roadway will be shut down until the early morning hours on November 12 for repairs to the utility pole.

No one was injured. The Stony Point Commercial Vehicle Unit responded to conduct an inspection of the truck and the County of Rockland Hazardous Materials Unit responded to aid in the spill of diesel fuel.

The cause of the accident has yet to be determined but a contributing factor will be that the vehicle was overweight. The Stony Point Police were assisted by the RC Sheriff’s Dept. and the Stony Point Fire Department.
