Orangetown:

Jersey Man Arrested for DWI

On Monday Aug. 29, 2016 at approximately 10:37 p.m., the Orangetown Police Department arrested Fursey Walsh, 44, of Englewood, New Jersey for driving while intoxicated. Walsh was stopped on Old Tappan Road in Tappan, New York for a traffic violation. He had an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath and exhibited poor motor control. Walsh consented to, and failed, numerous field sobriety tests on the scene. He was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated and transported to the Orangetown Police Headquarters where he refused to take a Breathalyzer test. He was processed and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He was released and is due back in Orangetown Justice Court on Oct. 4, 2016 to answer the charge.

Pearl River Man Charged with DWI after Hitting Treeย 

On Saturday Aug. 27, 2016 at approximately 5:07 a.m. the Orangetown Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident on Orangeburg Road in Pearl River, New York. At the scene officers saw a motor vehicle on the front lawn of a residence that had overturned and was lying on its roof. The vehicle had lost control hitting an embankment off the side of the road, went airborne and struck a tree approximately 7 feet from its base. The sole occupant and driver, 23-year-old Eric Chanin of Pearl River, New York, was still in the vehicle and trapped inside. Pearl River Fire Department responded and removed Chanin from the vehicle. Medic 21 and Pearl River Ambulance also responded to the scene and administered medical attention. He was then transported to the Westchester Medical Center via stat flight helicopter. Chanin consented to a blood test to determine the alcohol content of his blood and the results are pending. Chanin was charged with drinking while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and was released at the hospital on an appearance ticket to receive medical attention. He is due back in Orangetown Justice Court on Sept. 21, 2016 to answer all charges.

Nyack Man Resists Arrest, Injuring Officer

On Friday Aug. 26, 2016 at approximately 12:35 a.m. the Orangetown Police Department arrested Kelvin Lara, 32, of Nyack, New York on several charges. Lara was operating a motor vehicle on Route 59 in Nyack and was stopped by police for a traffic violation. A check on his license showed Lara had two suspensions out of Newburgh, New York. An officer noticed the smell of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Laraโ€™s breath. He refused to conduct field sobriety tests and became uncooperative. The officer attempted to place him under arrest when he became combative and began to fight with the officer. Lara was eventually subdued but the officer sustained an injury during the struggle. Lara was arrested and transported to the Orangetown Police Headquarters. He was processed and charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and driving while ability impaired. He was arraigned and released on bail. Lara is due back in Nyack Justice Court on Sept. 20, 2016 to answer all charges.

Ramapo

Burglary in New Hempstead

On Sunday Aug. 28, 2016 at approximately 7:10 a.m., the Ramapo Policeโ€™s patrol and investigation divisions responded to a reported burglary of an occupied residence in New Hempstead, New York. After canvassing the neighborhood they discovered a suspect, a 41-year-old Spring Valley man who was then arrested approximately two and a half hours after the crime. He was charged with second-degree burglary. He was arraigned in the Village of New Hempstead Judge. He was remanded to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bail.

Stony Point

New City Man Arrested on Warrant

On Aug. 29, 2016 the Stony Point Police Department arrested James Casserly, 42, of New City, New York for a parole violation. He was arrested following an investigation of a suspicious person revealed he was wanted on an active arrest warrant out of the NYS Department of Corrections. Casserly was arrested, processed and awaiting pickup by the NYS Division of Parole.

Domestic Dispute Arrest

On Aug. 25, 2016 the Stony Point Police Department arrested Rocco Arancibia, 62, of Stony Point, New York for fourth-degree criminal mischief. He was arrested after a domestic dispute investigation. Arancibia allegedly damaged the victimโ€™s vehicle, striking it with a stick, during a domestic dispute. He was arrested, processed, arraigned and RORโ€™d on an appearance ticket returnable at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 1, 2016 after posting $250.00 bail.

Haverstraw Woman Arrested for Harassment

On Aug. 24, 2016 the Stony Point Police Department arrested Erica Polanco, 31, of Haverstraw, New York for harassment. She was arrested following an investigation that revealed she was wanted on an active warrant out of Haverstraw for harassment. She was arrested, processed and turned over the Haverstraw Town Police Department to answer the charge.

Woman Arrested for Cocaine Possession

On Aug. 18, 2016 the Stony Point Police Department arrested Victoria Strehlau, 46, of Stony Point, New York for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Strehlau was arrested after a vehicle and traffic stop revealed she was in possession of cocaine. She was arrested, process and released on an appearance ticket returnable at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 20, 2016.
